Original Sculpture by Frank Leske “Figur 2625”. Oak, 119 x 21 x 24 cm
Frank Leske’s sculptural work is characterized by its exploration of spatial form through wooden grid structures, deep cuts, and geometric fragmentation. His sculptures, carved from solid oak logs, are opened by vertical, horizontal, and diagonal incisions that invite space and light into the form. This interplay between material and void becomes a key part of the work’s expression. His recurring themes include the human body in posture and motion, as well as abstract spatial constructions inspired by the grain and growth of wood.
Leske meticulously shapes the surface through sanding and glazing—sometimes using metal pigments that chemically react with the tannins in the wood, creating evolving colorations over time. These transformations reinforce the connection between sculpture and environment. His work, while minimalist in form, evokes a rich emotional and conceptual depth. Frank Leske received the Art Prize of the City of Bad Kreuznach in 2002 and is represented in numerous public spaces and gallery collections.
