Willi Siber’s work draws its strength from an abstraction that convincingly combines elementary design, intuition and association. It is characterized by a tireless interest in exploring materials, forms and colors, which he constantly recombines and questions with regard to their aesthetic effect. The aesthetics and sensual richness of the panel, wall and floor objects are also reflected in an entry in the guest book for the weg – Willi Siber 1980 – 2020 exhibition, which states: “The works of the last decade are of breathtaking beauty and fascination”. With the reference to beauty, a central concept of modern aesthetics is invoked, one that is as controversial as it is fundamental to European culture. In a rough outline, the multifaceted meaning of beauty in general and its manifestation in Willi Siber’s work in particular will be explored. | Joachim Haller.
