Sabine Liebchen, born in 1960 and now living in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf, decided to become an artist at the age of twelve. Influenced by the works of Gerhard Richter, she even changed schools in order to be able to study art better. A meeting with Richter made a lasting impression on her. After studying art, she specialised in hyperrealism and skilfully used light to give her figures a tangible aura. Despite the aesthetics of her works, she is not interested in social criticism, but in awakening noble feelings through beauty. The back view plays a central role in her works, as it leaves the viewer room for interpretation and encourages identification with the people depicted. Her most recent works show women conquering their surroundings and in motion, often on large formats in order to convey their message in an impressive way. Her works encourage us to reflect on various aspects of women’s emancipation.
