RED HAT ADA – ALEX KATZ

With his flat planes of rich, beautiful color, Alex Katz breathes life into landscapes and portraits with the sleek aesthetic of advertising posters and films. The prolific artist is particularly known for his paintings of Ada, his wife and muse. Katz developed his signature style as a reaction against the abstract expressionism that dominated the mid-20th century when he began painting. Instead, he favored narrative, figurative clarity and the accessible pleasures of Pop Art, but without belonging to any particular school or movement. Despite being initially underappreciated in Europe, interest in Katz’s work has increased greatly over the last decades.

This iconic work depicts his wife Ada, the great inspiration in Katz’s work. It is a woodcut with 11 colors that took a year to complete. Each print is hand-signed and limited to only 40 copies.
